BACKGROUND:
The cost of living for the average middle-class house-hold, has more than doubled over the past decade!
Most parents struggle financially to make ends meet with their monthly salary spent almost entirely on basic essentials like paying their bond, medical aid, municipality /electricity, food and petrol bills.

Not to mention the priority expense on top of their list, namely, the education fees of their child which in South Africa is one of the highest compared to the UK, Australia and USA.

Especially SA’s divorced mothers are burdened the most as they often work longer hours but get paid lower salaries than most men of the same job-description. Unfortunately, gender discrimination in the workforce is still prevalent today. Mothers will spend less on their personal needs so that their child can go to college and get the education and the qualification they require to have a better future. I sympathize with this sacrifice of working mothers and have decided to take action.

MY SHORT-TERM MISSION:

PARENTS WILL ONLY PAY HALF THE CURRENT COLLEGE FEES REQUIRED ELSEWHERE, WHILE MY STUDENTS WLL BECOME HIGHLY-SKILLED IN SPECIALIST COMPUTER SOFTWARE PROGRAMMES WITHIN A SHORT 6 MONTH PERIOD SO THEY CAN TO EXCEL AT THEIR 4 MONTH INTERNSHIPS AT OUR ASSOCIATED COMPANIES AND THEN GRADUATE AT THE END OF THE YEAR TO START A PAID-INTERNSHIP OR SHORT CONTRACT WHICH CAN THEN LEAD TO FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT

Firstly, I have made a life-long commitment to ensure that parents in Cape Town only pay HALF the price of any other college in and around Cape Town.

The average cost per year for a Diploma course at other colleges is between R30 000 – R40 000 per year and I only charge R16 800 per year (an affordable R1 680 per month) for professional, quality education which you will only find at Calvin-Academy. I do NOT want any parent to go to the bank for a loan and put an extra burden of paying back that loan with high interest rates and take the risk of falling into a debt trap.

Secondly, I want students to enjoy their studies AND at the same time be MORE PRODUCTIVE.
I have seen first-hand the lack of class attendance and lack of face-to-face lecturing time with students at most colleges – a typical response “class keep busy while I mark your work” or “I have to go to an urgent meeting” or “sorry, there is no class today due to student fee strikes or train delays”

Their time at college should be balanced, yet at MOST colleges today it is skewed - students have too much free time on their hands and the emphasis should NOT be on self-study BUT lecturer and student study inter-action.

Furthermore, most courses can be completed in 1 year, yet most colleges drag it out for 3 years which puts a further financial burden on parents. My mission here is to have all students attend quality lectures presented by myself and industry-expert lecturers with experience in their field.

After 6 months students should be ready and able to implement what they have learned PRACTICALLY through internships at top companies. This I provide to all my students.

TO SUCCESSFULLY EQUIP MY YOUNG GRADUATES TAKING UP THE CHALLENGE OF BECOMING ENTREPRENEURS UNDER MY LEADERSHIP AND GUIDANCE. THIS IS ACHIEVED THROUGH BUSINESS COACHING AND OPENING UP BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM WITH ASSOCIATED OWNERS

A number students who have graduated from Calvin-Academy, are most likely to be inspired enough to follow the path of creating their own startup business.

I offer my graduates the choice of becoming part of my Free Mentorship Programme which is structured to equip them further with the goal of becoming an Entrepreneur. I personally guide them through the process of becoming a successful young business entrepreneur.

With the high unemployment rate at a shocking 27,7 % among young adults in SA and
a Diploma not being able to guarantee them a job, it is time local businesses invested more in Entrepreneurship Colleges like Calvin-Academy so that we can dramatically increase the number of job-creators in our country, each starting within their own community first.

South Africa needs job-creators and NOT more job-seekers. This is mainly the task of small and large business leaders because we need their involvement and support to prevent the rise of unemployment stats further.
